Bixby 59,

Muskogee 51

The Spartans outhustled the Lady Roughers on the boards, leaving MHS coach Shonika Breedlove frustrated.

“We didn’t do a good job rebounding offensively or defensively,” said Breedlove. “We were just standing around and our defense killed us tonight.

That was no clearer than the third quarter. Up 29-28 lead at halftime, Muskogee (7-11, 3-8) came out flat as Bixby (7-13, 2-9) outscored the Lady Roughers 16-6 in the period to a 44-36 lead.

“Our defense hurt us and our offense could never really find a rhythm because we were forcing shots all night,” said Trena Mims, who had all seven of Muskogee’s points in the quarter and led the Lady Roughers on the night with 20 points.

The first quarter ended with Muskogee on top 15-13 as Bre Virgin opened the game with consecutive 3s, one from the right wing with an assist from Mims and one from the post, as Muskogee led 6-4 with 5:02 on the clock..

Muskogee takes on Sapulpa on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. start time, followed by the boys.
